Solano County Health and Social Services Building, Vallejo, CA
This design-build project is a $20.0 million, 3-story, 57,000 square foot office building designed for Solano County. The design team shared one central file that contained the 3D building model created in REVIT Structure. B&B was able to use this model to quickly create: 1) a 3D model that was imported into RAM Steel for structural analysis, 2) a structural steel model that was exported to 3D steel detailing software to create the steel shop drawings, 3) a 3D model detecting potential conflicts between Structural, Architectural and Mechanical objects, and 4) a traditional set of construction documents. This approach not only assisted in detecting and coordinating potential conflicts, but also helped shorten the project's critical path schedule. The structural steel shop drawings were created, reviewed, and approved concurrent with the permit process. The seamless shop drawing process was made possible by B&B's investment in partnering with a structural steel detailing company to provide lean integrated delivery of structural steel. The steel was procured, ordered, fabricated, and delivered on an accelerated schedule. All 300 tons of steel was erected in less than four days without a misaligned bolt and with no structural RFI's.
