The Principals of our firm maintain an active role in all phases of every project from preliminary concept through completed construction.
Throughout our firm's history, we have acquired valuable experience regarding the response of building structures to the excitation generated from seismic motion by reviewing earthquake damage firsthand. Our staff of engineers are registered Disaster Service Workers with the State of California and are dispatched through the Office of Emergency Services to provide immediate safety assessments. B&B supplied engineering teams within five days of the 1989 Loma Prieta and the 1994 Northridge earthquakes. We were able to assess and note deficiencies that would influence code changes and detailing requirements and were able to immediately incorporate them into our design philosophy.
B&B has been involved in the seismic design and analysis of several pre-1900 structures in the area referred to as "Old Sacramento." At the time of these designs, there were no specific "strengthening" codes or construction methods available. By undertaking and successfully completing these projects, we developed innovative procedures for the design and analysis that are reflected in the current code requirements.
