Sacramento Community Convention Center

1996 Best Public/Municipal Building Design Award for the structural design of the Sacramento Convention Center presented by the Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI).

Buehler & Buehler provided the structural design for the approximately 250,000 square foot addition and renovation of the existing Sacramento Community Convention Center.

New concrete shear walls were used to upgrade the existing lateral load resisting system. The two-story addition consists of metal deck spanning between steel roof trusses at 10 feet on center that span 160 feet. The second-floor framing consists of eight-foot-deep concrete beams that span 160 feet. The roof and floor framing is supported by 52-inch diameter concrete columns.

The lateral load system consists of steel diagonal braces in the second story.

The lateral load is transferred to cast-in-place concrete shear walls at the first story. A dynamic seismic analysis and wind tunnel tests were used to determine lateral loading.
